Belurmutt

Belur Mutt was founded by Swami Vivekananda during 1897.It is on the banks of the Hooghly River. The headquarters of Ramakrishna Mutt and Ramakrishna Mission is also situated here.

Vivekananda carried the ashes of Ramakrishna Paramhansa in a copper casket and deposited it at Belur. The Ramakrishna Temple here is an international pilgrim center.

The other places of attractions are Vivekananda’s residence, Matri Mandird Sri Ramakrishna Museum. The birth anniversaries of Ramakrishna, Vivekananda and holy mother Sarada Devi are celebrated here. Belurmutt is 10 kms away from Kolkata; it is well-connected by trains and buses.

Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission

Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission are twin organizations which form the core of a worldwide spiritual movement (known as Ramakrishna Movement or Vedanta Movement).

This aims at deem spiritual fulfillment, harmony of the East and the West, harmony of religions, harmony of the ancient and the modern, all-round development of human faculties, social equality, and peace for all humanity, without any distinctions of creed, caste, race or nationality.

Ramakrishna Math is a monastic organization for men brought into existence by Sri Ramakrishna (1836-1886), a great saint of Bengal who is regarded as the ‘Prophet of the Modern Age’.

Ramakrishna Mission is a registered society in which monks of Ramakrishna Math and devotees work together in accomplishing various types of social service mainly in India. It was founded by Sri Swami Vivekananda (1863-1902), one of the leading philosopher and religious leaders of the present age.

Although Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission are legally and financially separate, they are closely inter-related in several other ways, and considered as twin organizations.
