Almora is a picturesque district in the Kumaun region with thickly wooded forests, scenic valleys, quaint cottages, crystal lakes and gushing rivers. It sits beautifully on top of a peak that is semicircular. The Almora town is in the shape of a horse shoe. Almora is full of scenic beauty and the houses are constructed using slate stone.

Unlike Shimla, Ranikhet and Nainital which were developed by the English, Almora is a hill station totally developed by the Indians.
