Geography

On 9th November, Uttaranchal became the 27th state of the Republic of India, with Dehradun as its capital.  About 92% of the state’s area is hilly. It borders with China, Nepal, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh. Most of the northern region of the state is a part of the mighty Himalayan ranges.

Major rivers are Bhagirathi (Ganga), Alaknanda, Mandakani, Pindari, Tones, Yamuna, Kali, Nyaar, Bhilangana, Saryu, Ramganga.    

Climate

During peak winters the region experiences heavy snowfall and rain. Sometimes, the place is cut off from the rest of the country. Best time to visit is between April and June and September to November. 

How to reach  

Air: Nearest airport is Jolly Grant, Dehradun, 314 km.

Rail: Nearest railhead is Rishikesh, 297 km which is connected to major cities.

Road: Buses, private taxi are available between Rishikesh and Badrinath. The Uttaranchal State Transport Corporation operates regular bus services from Delhi-Rishikesh daily.
