Karnataka is home to Kannadigas, Tuluvas, Kodavas and Konkanis. Yakshagana is the popular. Veeragase, Kamsale, Kolata and Dollu Kunitha are popular dance forms. The state is very famous for Bharatanatyam.

The state has produced great musicians in both Carnatic and Hindustani styles. Purandara Dasa is the most revered Haridasas who popularised carnatic music in the state. He is also known as the Karnataka Sangeeta. Hindustani music maestros like Gangubai Hangal, Mallikarjun Mansur, Bhimsen Joshi, Basavaraja Rajaguru, Sawai Gandharva and several others hail from Karnataka.

Gamaka is another classical music practiced in the State. Famous painters are Sundarayya, Tanjavur Kondayya, B. Venkatappa and Keshavayya.

Saree is the traditional dress of women, while Dhoti, known as Panche is for men. Mysore peta (headgear) is preferred in southern parts of the state. The pagadi or pataga is common in the northern areas.

Cuisine

Rice, Ragi Jolada rotti, Sorghum are staple food of the state. Bisi bele bath, Jolada rotti, Ragi mudde, Uppittu, Masala Dose and Maddur Vade are some of the popular food items. Mysore Pak, Belgaavi Kunda, Gokak karadantu, and Dharwad pedha are popular sweetmeats.
