Geography

Vietnam is lies on the eastern most part of the Indochinese peninsula. Vietnam is a strip of land shaped like the letter “S”. Vietnam borders with China to the north, Laos and Cambodia to the west, the East Sea to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the east and south.

Best time to visit

The North, Central and Southern regions in Vietnam have different weather patterns and different rainy seasons.  This means that there is neither a best time nor a bad time to travel to Vietnam. Beaches are always available from North to South. While it is frosty in the far northern hills with occasional snow, temperatures can soar to 40°C in the south.

From April to October, the summer monsoon brings hot, humid weather to the whole country except for those areas sheltered by mountains. In South, November to February is dry and cool. From July to November, violent and unpredictable typhoons hit central and northern Vietnam.

How to reach

Major airlines fly to Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi

Most of Asian countries, China, Japan, Korea, and Russia have direct flights to Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi.

Coach: From adjacent countries such as Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and China, tourists can travel to Vietnam by coach.

Sea: Vietnam can be reached by sea.

Visa

Visitors have to apply for a Vietnamese visa in advance to enter the country. Vietnamese visa fees ranges from US$45 –85 if application is sent directly to the Embassy or US$25-55 if the visa has been pre-approved. Recently, visa on arrival process has been introduced. However, this also requires a pre-arranged application to Hanoi Immigration Department.
